The Guises of Disablism, Disabilitism, and Disabledism

Disablism, Disabilitism, and Disabledism arise in many forms in society, with many prevailing and recurring themes when it comes to the  responses of society in addressing the presence, needs, interests, and abilities of a person living with, or affected by circumstances of disability.  Amongst many others, those prevailing and recurring themes include:

Rejection

       Preclusion

            Pity

                Charity

                      Patronization

                           Paternalism

                                 Collectivism

                                       Indifference

                                              Indignation

                                                      Intimidation

                                                             Underestimation

Prevailing in the life of a person in circumstances of disability, together and alone, these themes underpin the essence of their disablement.
