You are here: Foundations The Sustainment of Disablism, Disabilitism, and Disabledism

Welcome to a new perspective and platform dedicated to bringing greater wellness and dignity to persons living with the circumstances and dynamics of disability in their lives.

Living with, or being affected by circumstances of disability should not mean having to live disempowered, and without wellness and dignity.   Yet historically it always has been, and continues to be, with the vast majority of persons with disabilities in society having to live their lives demoralized, in conditions of poverty, marginalized, and often in poor health and living circumstances that are far short of what would ordinarily be considered to be an acceptable  state of personal wellness and dignity. Unfortunately, that is because despite what have been for the most part good intentions otherwise, society's traditional and entrenched past and present thinking when it comes to addressing disability needs,  has and continues to cause loss of dignity and lack of wellness for persons living with circumstances of disability. Unfortunately too, oppression and discrimination on account of disability continue to be at the heart of the matter.

DisabilityWellness is designed and dedicated to           Disabling Discrimination on account of disability  by bringing different thinking and  better awareness, truths, and consciousness to the ways in which disability is seen, thought about, and accepted in society.

Please feel free to drop by and visit us often to learn about        new ideas and ways of thinking about disability.    Remember, Albert Einstein once said...We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.

We also welcome your thoughts about disability wellness and discrimination.

Hi, I came across your site from a post in a group on Facebook. I must say, that used to be a familiar feeling for me. I am legally blind, suffer from Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) and am now an Inspirational Speaker and Direction Coach/Mentor, known as the Blind Leader. One of my goals through my speaking, apart from sharing my story, is to bring awareness of some of the things mentioned above :-) Ultimately, my purpose in this life is to be a facilitator of positive change, and it all began by me making certain decisions and changes in my own life, which enables me to lead by example :-)

It was an unexpected pleasure to discover your website.I am always on the lookout for folks, like you, who challenge the foundation of how disability is perceived in our society. I don't believe that we will make much progress on any front until we lift our collective vision. I passed the link to your website on to a colleague who rthen asked what what had impressed me about it. My reply was: "I just like it when people stick there heads out of the pedantic quagmire of common “disability think”, catch a new scent In the air, and have the courage to report on it." Thanks for your important perspectives. Bravo!

Having a physical disability myself and not knowing where to turn for help leaves me questioning my future. Currently finishing of my grade 12 @ SIAST Kelsey Campus, I find the career and guidance counselors advice and lack of n understanding of my concerns in my future. JUst trying to find some help in securing some type of a hopeful future is my only goal.

It's about time that someone began to tell it like it is about wellness in disability.
